²⁶ Then he released Barabbas ^[a]for them; but after having Jesus ^(A)flogged, he handed Him over to be crucified.

Jesus Is Mocked

^27 (B)Then the soldiers of the governor took Jesus into ^(C)the ^[b]Praetorium and gathered the whole Roman ^[c](D)cohort to Him. ²⁸ And they stripped Him and ^(E)put a red ^[d]cloak on Him. ^29 (F)And after twisting together a crown of thorns, they put it on His head, and put a ^[e]reed in His right hand; and they knelt down before Him and mocked Him, saying, “^(G)Hail, King of the Jews!” ³⁰ And ^(H)they spit on Him, and took the reed and beat Him on the head.

⁶⁵ And some began to ^(A)spit on Him, and ^[a](B)to blindfold Him, and to beat Him with their fists and say to Him, “^(C)Prophesy!” Then the officers took custody of Him ^[b]and slapped Him in the face.

¹⁵ Intent on satisfying the crowd, Pilate released Barabbas for them, and after having Jesus ^(A)flogged, he handed Him over to be crucified.

Jesus Is Mocked

^16 (B)Now the soldiers took Him away into ^(C)the ^[a]palace (that is, the Praetorium), and they *called together the whole Roman ^[b](D)cohort. ¹⁷ And they *dressed Him in ^[c]purple, and after twisting together a crown of thorns, they put it on Him; ¹⁸ and they began saluting Him: “Hail, King of the Jews!” ¹⁹ And they repeatedly beat His head with a ^[d]reed and spit on Him, and kneeling, they bowed down before Him.

^63 (A)The men who were holding ^[a]Jesus in custody began mocking Him and beating Him, ⁶⁴ and they blindfolded Him and repeatedly asked Him, saying, “^(B)Prophesy, who is the one who hit You?” ⁶⁵ And they were saying many other things against Him, ^(C)blaspheming.

The Crown of Thorns

19 So Pilate then took Jesus and ^[a](A)had Him flogged.
